Sammanfattning: There are several reasons for improving the reliability of a system, and thus decreasing the amount of generated failures; performance requirements, safety requirements and costs. The costs can be divided into maintenance cost and cost for loss of production. For systems where the cost for loss of production is high, it can be useful to analyse the availability. Nuclear power plants do well fit into this category with costs exceeding 2 MSEK per day of lost power production. This thesis consists of two parts. The first part contains a summary of some of the most commonly used methods for analysing system reliability. The objective is to describe the features of the methods, to make comparison and selection between them possible. The second part comprises an availability prediction of the Generator cooling system at Barsebäck nuclear power plant. The analysis was performed using fault tree analysis. The report presented to Barsebäcks Kraft AB (BKAB) is enclosed to this thesis.
