reading the documentation

The documentation for Macaulay 2 is available in several formats. The directory ./html contains the documentation in html form, suitable for viewing with a web browser such as Netscape.

The directory ./book contains the code for producing the documentation in TeX form, which can be printed or viewed with xdvi . A hyperTeX form of the book is also makeable there which can be viewed with xhdvi , the most recent version of which is available (summer, 1996) at

     ftp://ftp.duke.edu/tex-archive/support/hypertex/hypertex/xhdvi_0.8a.tar.gz
and with needed WWW library routines at
     http://publish.aps.org/eprint/reports/hypertex/WWWLibrary.tar.Z

Finally, all the documentation can be viewed withing the program in text form using help.
